GENERAL
INFORMATION
Esthetic dentistry
is devoted to the restoration of the dentition in both a functional and
esthetic state. During the past decade, there has been a rapid expansion
in our knowledge of esthetic dentistry through basic and clinical research,
leading to the development of a multitude of new restorative materials
and clinical techniques.
The UB Esthetic Dentistry
Education Center establishes the parameters for teaching and formulates
the necessary standards for education and research in this new domain.
LEADERSHIP
Dr.
Fred McIntyre has established a legacy on the cutting edge of esthetic
dentistry at the University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. Beginning
in 1987, Dr. McIntyre developed the first undergraduate couse for seniors
and stimulated private support for student research in esthetic dentistry
education through continuing education. Dr. McIntyre is widely published
and has lectured at numerous conferences on developments in the field.

To earn the Fellowship Award, members must earn a minimum of 500 approved
continuing dental education credits and pass a comprehensive 400-question
examination. Dentists must also be an Academy of General Dentistry member

the latest techniques into their practices and network with other leaders
in the field.

To attain Mastership, members must first have attained Fellowship status
in the Academy of General Dentistry. They must then earn an additional

Thus, a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry has taken a total of
1,100 hours of continuing education and studied 16 disciplines in dentistry.
