Chautauqua Dental Congress 2008
Join
us for the 29th Annual Chautauqua Dental Congress June 25 - 27, 2008.
Lectures convene 9:00 am Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings in the Hall
of Christ, Chautauqua Institution.
Many of the visitors who return to Chautauqua year after year describe it as an experience rather than a vacation -- a place for renewal. The Chautauqua Institution was founded on the belief that everyone "has a right to be all that he can be -- to know all that he can know." The experiences come in many forms. A dramatic lakeside setting and the beauty of its National Historic Landmark architecture make the Chautauqua Institution a thriving community where visitors come to find intellectual and spiritual growth and renewal.

Immediate Implants: Indications, Techniques and Challenges -
Dr. Othman Shibly
Immediate implants are a valuable option for people with hopeless teeth, especially
to satisfy the needs of patients in esthetic zones. However immediate implants
cannot be assumed as a possibility for every patient and in every clinical
situation. Based on our clinical research we identified the biggest challenge
for immediate implant placements in periodontally compromised patients to be
severe interproximal bone loss, severe furcation involvement, upper molars
with periapical lesions near sinus, proximity of lower teeth to nerve canals,
and the limitation of mouth opening to replace 2nd molars. Severity of loss
in the buccal plate of anterior teeth was not a factor in placing implants.
The goal of this seminar is to identify the challenges that face the practioner in placing implants immediately after extraction in periodontally compromised patients. Also it will discuss different clinical managements for optimum esthetic outcome in placing implants immediately after extraction in the esthetic zone

How Not To Kill Your Patients & Ruin Your Day (and Theirs, Too!!!)
- Drs. Dave Croglio & Patrick Anders
Medically compromised patients are
no longer a rare occurrence in dental practices. The population is aging,
and living with increasingly complex medical conditions. It has become more
and more essential for dentists to understand the implications of this fact
in delivering dental care. This presentation will provide a practical approach
to treating patients that are seen every day in dental practice.Discussion
will include: review of common medications, tests and laboratory values that
you need to know, dental implications of common medical conditions and the
influences these conditions have on dental treatment planning.

Fundamental Principles of Removable Esthetics - Dr. Frank
Lauciello
The demand for removable prosthodontic services is projected to
significantly increase over the next 15-20 years. This fact seems to contradict
the recent advances in the dental science of prevention, however the changing
patient demographics and the higher lever of functional and esthetic expectations
from patients have fueled this increase. The development of communication
skills for clinicians and technicians is essential for predictable esthetic
and functional success for complete and/or partial dentures. Review and update
of basic removable prosthodontic procedures, concepts, and materials. Emphasis
will be placed on edentulous anatomy, simplified impression procedures for
complete & partial
dentures, posterior denture occlusion, and the development of skills of communication
between the clinician and the laboratory technician.
