TUITION AND CREDITS

CDE CREDITS

New York State's Mandatory Continuing Education Law for the dental profession became effective January 1997. CDE provides numerous educational opportunites that comply with the requirements for relicensure:

  • Practicing dentists are required to take 45 credit hours every three years.
  • Dental hygienists must take 24 credit hours every three years

CDE certifies that all courses relating to the scientific or clinical practice of dentistry are acceptable by the:

  • Academy of General Dentistry (AGD)
  • American Dental Association (CERP,
  • Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontari,
  • Dental Assisting National Board

DUPLICATE CERTIFICATES
Duplicate attendance certificates are available and must be requested in writing with a $5.00 handling fee per certificate or course.

TUITION
Tuition varies from course to course depending on factors such as lecture vs. clinical hands-on experience. Check the indidual course listings for thecost of tuition. In cases where tuition is a substantial investment, UB/CDE offers a tuition deposit option to hold a registration space as well as extended payment plans

CDE day-to-day office operations are completely self funded through course tuition. Since state funds and/or tax dollars are not used for this purpose they are instead available to the Dental School to sustain its teaching mission

DISCOUNTS

  • Current dues-paid members of UB Dental Alumni Association: 20% reduction on selected non-participation courses
  • '98 - '99 UB Dental Graduates: 50% tuition reduction on non-participation courses.
  • Discounts do not apply to staff or for off-campus programs and programs cosponsored by or with organizations.

Please indicate at the time of registration if any discounts apply.

TAX DEDUCTIONS
The IRS allows an income tax deduction for continuing education course expenses when course content is designed to maintain or improve skills required for an individualšs business.
Deduction expenses include:

  • registration fees
  • cost of travel
  • meals
  • lodging

Please contact your accountant for specific information regarding tax deductions.

REFUNDS
Since considerable advance planning is necessary for each continuing education program, the following policy regarding cancellation of registration is in effect unless otherwise noted in the individual course description:

  • A tuition refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, will be issued for cancellations received in writing at least one week prior to the starting date of the course.
  • No refunds will be issued after that date. However, tuition may be transferred to a future CE course if documentation is presented to support absence because of an emergency.

Special cancellation policies exist for all limited enrollment and hands-on participation courses.

COURSE CANCELLATION

The University at Buffalo, CDE reserves the right to cancel any course, limit enrollment, modify the announced course content, or change the location, time, date and faculty of any course as may be deemed necessary or advisable.

NOTE: Attending CDE courses offered by the University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine, does not necessarily qualify you to integrate new techniques or procedures into your practice. The University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine expects course participants to rely on their judgement regarding their clinical expertise and recommends further education when necessary before implementing any new procedure. Sponsorship of a continuing education course by the University at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine does not necessarily imply endorsement of a particular philosophy, procedure or product by this institution.
