Continuing Education credits are certified by University at Buffalo, Continuing Dental Education. All courses are acceptable by the AGD, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, ADHA and DANB and courses relating to the scientific or clinical practice of dentistry are acceptable by the ADA (CERP) and toward mandatory NYS CE requirements.

UB/CDE is an ADA (CERP) approved provider and an approved sponsor for NYS and verifies at least one full-time employee and the facilities, equipment, and financial and physical resources to provide such programs as required by NYS Education Law.

Credit toward mandatory NYS CE must be met from attendance at formal courses in appropriate subject areas offered by approved sponsors. (Courses that are not relevant to patient care and/or clinically related, such as practice management, accounting, finance, statistics, self- help, etc., are not acceptable.)

To earn the Fellowship Award in the Academy of General Dentistry, members must earn a minimum of 500 approved continuing dental education credits and pass a comprehensive 400-question examination.

Dentists must also be an Academy of General Dentistry member for five continuous years and attend the Convocation Ceremony held at the Annual Meeting. Challenging themselves to attain Fellowship allows dentists to remain current with what is new in dentistry, to incorporate the latest techniques into their practices and network with other leaders in the field.

To attain Mastership, members must first have attained Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry. They must then earn an additional 600 approved continuing education credits, meeting minimum requirements in certain dental disciplines, of which 400 hours are hands-on courses. Thus, a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry has taken a total of 1,100 hours of continuing education and studied 16 disciplines in dentistry.
